This might be a little passé but considering how surprising a nail polish to have popped into Australian shops it's worth a listen!
How wonderful for Australian company (as the name suggests!) Australis to bring out their own flaky called Speck-tacular and a glittery version of Happy Birthday called Fairy Bread!
Speck-tacular is a suitably speckled multicoloured (blue, green, red, gold and emerald flashes) flaky (they call holographic and indeed it is like mother of pearl especially in the large flakes with slight shift of colour).
The colours really need a dark base and sunlight. It's not as 'speck-tacular' in dim lighting and the blues disappear leaving just the red and green.
The formula is wonderful! It's really tough on it's own (they call it strengthening) and feels smooth and shiny. I applied Speck-tacular over Diana Manicure's version of a shimmery black.
Speck-tacular definitely needs 2 coats. 1 coat seemed just a little weak.
I did get some chunky bits (below 2nd finger from left) but otherwise the flakes were mostly uniform.
To make the most of the flakes apply in a scraping motion downwards against the tip of your nails. Dip the brush in the bottle for more nail polish between nails.
Should you buy this?
Definitely! It's limited edition (they are running out!) and prices are around $7-8 (I found different prices in Kmart, Big W, Priceline, etc). Australis is also 100% Aussie (they don't test on animals) and it's great to see a trend of upmarket nail polishes from local brands!
